Mun Name/Nickname: Missi Age: 25 Dreamwidth Username: ![]() Contact: Current Characters in Game: N/A Do You Need A Invite Code?: N/A Character Character Name: Edward Elric Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist Age: 16 Appearance: Edward is of slightly below average height, standing at roughly 5'5", but considers himself anything but short. He has a lean and athletic build, as his very active lifestyle causes him to be quite tightly muscled (that, and Arakawa just likes muscular men). Ed unknowingly bears a very striking resemblance to his father when he was younger, sharing the same golden hair, golden eyes, and facial structure. Ed wears his long hair pulled back in a ponytail or braid, with some long fringe framing his face (and a long of hair that he uses alchemy to make stand straight up). His complexion is light, but somewhat tanned from spending a lot of time out in the sun, and he has several notable scars. The big ones are the ones on his right shoulder and left thigh from his automail surgery. He also has a long thin scar on the left side of his upper abdomen from a sword cut and a set of scars located on the front and back of the mid-left of his abdomen from getting skewered on a piece of metal beam. There's also a small scar on the right side of his forehead from a cut, but after his other scars, it's pretty negligible. Ed's right arm from the shoulder down and his left leg from mid-thigh down are automail, and as he's currently using Northern-style automail, it has a very high carbon content. He usually keeps his automail covered until he's around people who know he has it. Ed has a very casual, rather utilitarian style of dress. He favors practical clothes in practical colors. Usually he can be found wearing black trousers, a black shirt, a black jacket, and his signature red coat. He usually wears black boots and a thick leather belt with his silver State Alchemist watch attached by a chain. He also tends to wear white gloves to cover his hands. Canon Point: End of chapter 106, when he gets to the surface after his battle with Pride and just before Homunculus blasts everyone History: FMA wikia, The wiki AU History: N/A Personality: Ed generally leaves one of two impressions when he meets someone new, that he is a petulant brat in need of some anger management, or that he is a conceited know-it-all who doesn't know his own limits. To some degree, both of these impressions are true, though it is also true that Ed very much improves upon acquaintance. Because he is a very blunt person, Ed doesn't believe in sugar coating what he says, and in fact almost seems unable to whenever he tries to do so. This can cause him to come off as harsher than he intends, but also reveals his honest nature. Ed doesn't like to manipulate the truth and would rather tell a hard fact than a soft lie. He's seen the way soft lies can hurt people and has found it worse than when a hard truth causes pain. It should be said that Ed is secretly a big softy, and though he often tries to hide it, it doesn't take much to bring it out of him. He often roots for the underdog and has a very soft spot for children. Should a situation touch close to home, as it did in Youswell, his sympathy (and ire) is all the more strongly raised. Even though the miner has been rude to him, their situation reminded him of his own and he went to some length to right the wrong being done to the town. That isn't to say he doesn't have a sharp side to him. His temper is rather notorious among those who know him, but it’s important to make the distinction between Ed having a mild tantrum that he'll forget five minutes later (ie. thinking someone has slighted his height, which he’s gotten a lot better about) and Ed actually going into full No Holds Barred Beatdown mode (ie. Tucker and Father). Ed's temper flares quickly and it flares hot, but the only time it lasts more than thirty seconds is when he is well and truly pissed off. Ed also has a wicked sense of humor and delights in using it against someone who has annoyed him. Again, see Yousewell and the way he tricked Yoki into giving him the deed to the mine. Ed doesn't pull punches and his puckish sense of humor shows in the tactics he uses when he fights. At Briggs, he gave an evil grin before transmuting ammonia gas to overpower the sensitive animal noses of his opponents. And in Central, he played at being the victim before knocking out some guards, again with an evil glint in his eyes. It's not just that he uses his intelligence as he fights, but he enjoys turning tables with ruthless glee. And Ed is very intelligent. By the age of five, he and his brother had taught themselves the basics of alchemy, a feat that amazed their mother. She correctly observed that her sons' accomplishment would have caused no small insult to some adult alchemists. Throughout the series, Ed displays his intelligence in various ways. Though his clapping alchemy is what caused him to be hailed as a genius, the way in which he uses his alchemy is extremely varied, and points to his vast scientific understanding. The fact that at five years of age Ed and his brother were getting into their father's books points to a deep thirst for knowledge, and thirst that remains with him even as he gets older. Ed's intelligence isn't just bound to alchemy, though it's often related. His code breaking/making skills are an example of this. All alchemists code their notes. Marcoh codes his as recipes, Mustang codes his with the names of women, and Ed codes his as a travelogue. Despite the fact Al is his brother and knows his mind better than anyone else, even Al can't read Ed's alchemy notes. From this we can deduce that Ed probably did most of the cracking during the ten days it took him and Al to break Marcoh's code. Due to his rather strong love of science and logic, Ed might seem a cynic to some and a pessimist to others. But it is merely that his mind works in a very rational and logical way, often following his own brand of rationalization. Ed rarely jumps into anything blind, first examining a situation with a keen observing eye. Alchemy requires sharp observation skills, which Ed possesses in spades. In the middle of his State Alchemist test, he spotted Mustang's reaction to his threat on Bradley, despite the fact most of his attention was on the President. Not that this kept Ed from being unable to see Bradley cut his spear to pieces, even though he'd been looking right at him. Despite willingly becoming a State Alchemist, Ed has a lot of issues with authority. Blindly following orders without question does not sit well with him, but at the same time Ed respects and admires the trust that Mustang's men place in him, a trust that to some extent he shares. Because he's been independent for most of his life, Ed is pretty suspicious of anyone who tries to exert authority over him, which has only gotten worse thanks to finding out just how corrupt the military really was. This is often when Ed is his most petulant, which can also be due to the fact many people in the military did not take him seriously because of his age. The fact he joined the military at the age of twelve says a lot about Ed's determination though. State Alchemists were considered sell-outs to much of the alchemy community, including his own teacher. But Ed joined anyway, willing to make the necessary sacrifices in order to gain the privileges that came with being a State Alchemist, privileges he hoped would help him restore his and Al's bodies. At one point he even makes the comment that for the sake of survival he would bow down to an enemy (though only for a moment), and he's relatively sincere in the statement. For Ed, his determination to survive can trump his pride. Despite this, and despite his very rational approach to life, Ed has an extremely strong sense of right and wrong, and he doesn't allow himself to blur the line between the two. When offered a guaranteed chance to get his and Al's bodies back, Ed turned it down, because not only would it mean using the lives of thousands of people who hadn't deserved their fact, but it also meant bloodying his hands with even more lives first. Even though it'd be so much easier to take the easy way out, Ed refuses to compromise his morals and let others pay for his mistakes. So he has a bit of a martyr complex. There are worse ways to live your life. Abilities: Ed's main weapon is alchemy, the science of transforming one material into another, changing its shape, or both. On Ed's world, alchemy consists of three steps: comprehension, or understanding the structure of the item to be transmuted down to the molecular level; deconstruction, or breaking down the physical structure into form that is easier to manipulate; and reconstruction, or reforming the object into its new state. Alchemy is a science in Ed's world, and as such is subject to laws and rules. The central law of alchemy is Equivalent Exchange, which basically states that energy and matter can't be created from nothing and can't be totally destroyed, the parts must equal the whole, and objects can only be transformed into things with the same basic properties. Having studied the science for over ten years, Ed is considerably adept at transmutations. And because he's seen the Gates and met Truth, Ed is able to perform transmutations without drawing an array, as is normally required. He simply has to clap his hands together and touch the object he wants to transmute. In addition to alchemy, Ed is a skilled fighter who keeps himself in good physical condition. As he's spent a number of years fighting opponents larger than him, Ed can take on fighters of pretty much any size. Larger because he's fought a lot of them, smaller because that's how he fights, and in between because... well, everything's in between. Part of what makes him a skilled fighter is Payment to Yubaba Memory: 1. His mother dying 2. Trying to bring his mother back (and through that the Gate and Truth) 3. Receiving his State Alchemist certificate and watch 4. Burning down his house 5. Decoding Marcoh's research 6. Going to Xerxes 7. Digging up the body he transmuted 8. Putting together the Xerxes array in Gluttony's stomach 9. Seeing Al's body in the Gate 10. The meeting in the tunnel under Briggs New Name: Red Samples First Person: The next person who shoves me into a bath is getting a boot up their ass. I had to spend almost half an hour afterwards making sure everything was properly dry and re-oiling all my joints. OIL + HOT SOAPY WATER DOES NOT MIX PEOPLE. This is some delicate machinery and if I get even one spot of rust on it my mechanic will beat me to a bloody pulp with her wrench. And then you lot would have to clean up that mess. So next time, consider how much fun it will be to clean blood and brains off the mats and floor before you shove me into a bath. Or just consider how much pain you could be in when you sit down. For a week. Third Person: Red snapped awake with a ragged gasp, his body jerking itself upright from the combination of a dream he couldn't quite remember now that he was awake and the pain racing through his shoulder and thigh. Curling up into a semi-fetal position, he clutched at his shoulder with his left hand, trying to breathe evenly and, not for the first time, trying to remember just how he'd lost his arm and leg. It was one of those fuzzy spots in his memory, where he'd noticed a definite gap, but that kept slipping away every time he tried to focus on it. It taunted him, like a dusty book on a high rickety shelf with absolutely no way to reach it. The spine was ornately decorated and tantalizing to look at, but too far away for him to read, let alone touch. Another wave of pain washed over him as the rain continued to patter against the window next to his bed. Amputated limbs tended to react to drops in barometric pressure, or so he'd read somewhere once upon a time, not long before the surgery that had left him with two metal prostheses. Sometimes he even thought he could still feel his lost limbs, which was probably even more disturbing than the weather-related pain. The sensation never lasted for long when it came, but it never ceased to unnerve him slightly. His arm was gone, his leg was gone. Why did his body have to taunt him with these phantoms, as if his limbs weren't really gone? Gradually, gradually, the pain began to fade enough that Red could lay back down, in a vain attempt to reclaim the last few hours left in the night. But the soreness in his body would probably keep him up the rest of the night, robbing him of his precious sleep. Maybe if he was lucky, he'd be able to snatch a short nap during his lunch break, if he could find someplace in the bathhouse quiet enough. He'd yet to find such a place, but he lived in hope. A foolish hope, but a hope nonetheless. |
